This could have serious consequences.

In Davos, Antony Blinken stressed that he does not see even conditional prospects for a long-term truce in Ukraine.

The US Secretary of State noted that Russia still has significant potential to continue the war.

There have never been so many challenges at once.

The prospect that the Russian political leadership is ready to reconsider its approaches to the war with Ukraine seems rather illusory. Moreover, during the panel discussion at which these words were voiced, the US Secretary of State had to talk about several wars at once – wars that have already begun and those that the United States considers to be a continuous catastrophe.

He answered questions related to the war in the Middle East and how the United States treats Israel's operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as the prospect of a military solution to the Taiwan problem. It is now being actively discussed against the backdrop of the presidential elections in Taiwan, which led to the victory of a representative of the ruling democratic progressive party, which Beijing considers a separatist organization.

Blinken noted that a military solution to the Taiwan problem would lead to a catastrophe for the world economy. This confrontation can lead to staggering results for the economy of the whole world.

Amid the expectation of new conflicts and attempts to resolve those that have already begun, Russia's war with Ukraine seems to be only one of the important challenges for the United States. Blinken admitted that there had never been so many challenges in the world at the same time.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Blinken and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on the sidelines of the Davos Forum. Little is known about the details of this conversation, protocol reports read that both Blinken and Sullivan assured that the United States will continue to help Ukraine fight Russia.

This is an important reassurance amid the fact that congressmen are still unable to find a compromise that would unlock the allocation of $60 billion aid to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden should meet with the leaders in Congress to discuss compromise again.

How Trump's speech affected the search for a compromise.

However, now congressmen from the Republican Party are more inclined to block decisions related to the help of Ukraine. Even the issue of a stable budget for the United States is now in the process of finding an understanding between Democrats and Republicans. When congressmen from both parties reach agreements on the temporary continuation of the work of state institutions, this is already seen as a huge cross-party compromise.

The successful speech of the 45th President Donald Trump at the primaries in Iowa further mobilized his supporters in Congress and created serious problems for those Republicans who would like to find a compromise with fellow Democrats to resolve the issue of assistance to Ukraine and Israel.

Everyone understands perfectly well that if such a compromise is reached against Trump's will, it can create serious career problems for many Republican congressmen.

Words about the need to support Ukraine sound like a serious promise from the US Secretary of State. But to realize this promise, it is necessary not only to announce the fact that Russia still has a lot of resources to continue the war, but also to look for ways to help Ukraine, which is trying to resist this aggressive war.
