An air alert was declared in the Russian city of Belgorod on the morning of 3 January. This was reported by the official telegram channel of the Belgorod mayor's office.
"Attention! The city of Belgorod. Rocket danger. If possible, stay at home. Do not go near the windows," it said.
Local media are reporting on the explosions in Belgorod, including videos.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that the air defence in the region was working. According to him, air defence forces shot down several air targets on the approach to the regional centre.
Gladkov later added that the village of Soloti in the Valuisky district had come under fire. As a result of the attack, the official said, windows in private homes were smashed, roofs were cut and a power line was damaged. No casualties were reported.
The governor confirmed that Belgorod was on air alert due to the missile threat.
On 2 January, at least 20 explosions were heard in Belgorod and a siren was sounded in the city.
