The court sentenced political prisoner Maksim Kronda, who was accused of insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported. The man wrote a message in an app.
The case was considered by the court of the Maskouski District of Brest, the verdict on December 6 was issued by Judge Maryna Skalkovich.
According to the prosecution materials, on September 18, 2021, Maksim Kronda posted a message with an insulting statement to Lukashenka on the Telegram Chat Elekhtarat, to which he was subscribed.
According to the investigation, he did this "knowing that other people will get acquainted with this message, and this humiliates the honor and dignity of the head of state." However, at that time, such a message did not matter.
When examining the mobile phone, it was also established that Kronda "was subscribed to several destructive Telegram channels."
Under Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code (Insulting Lukashenka), the court sentenced a man one year in a medium-security prison.
Kronda was detained on September 11, 2023. Before the trial, he was in pre-trial detention center #7 in Brest, human rights activists said.
