Russian Special Forces Storm St. Petersburg House With Three Cons Who Escaped From War

One of the deserters pointed a gun to the forehead of the group commander.

Three former prisoners who deserted from the war in Ukraine have been caught in Leningrad region.

The Ministry of Defence had to ask for help the Interior Ministry's special forces to detain them, 47news reports.

Alexander Igumenov and Mark Frolov, 30, and Vladimir Nikin, 37, were hiding in the village of Yanino in Vsevolozhsk district. All three had multiple convictions - ‘mostly for theft’ - and had enlisted for the war from prison, but eventually escaped from the front.

A Defence Ministry search and retrieval team led by an officer, whose rank was not specified, tracked down Igumenov and spotted him outside his home. When he arrived, Frolov and Nikin were with him. Upon seeing the military, Igumenov grabbed a pistol, pointed it at the forehead of the group commander and demanded that they leave.

‘In order to avoid civilian casualties,’ they complied and called for reinforcements. When they arrived, Interior Ministry special forces surrounded the house and stormed it.

It is alleged that the detainees were in a state of drug intoxication. A criminal case of desertion (article 338 of the Criminal Code) has been opened against them. They face up to 15 years' imprisonment.
