And there will be elections on May 25.
Ceasefire and cancellation of martial law in Ukraine may take place on January 20, 2025, and on May 25, 2025, elections may be held in the country. This is reported by The Economist.
‘Will he (newly elected US President Donald Trump. - Ed.) be able to impose a ceasefire? Will there be elections? At the moment, two dates are on the lips of Kyiv politicians: January 20, 2025, the date of Mr Trump's inauguration, the first moment for any possible ceasefire and lifting of martial law, and May 25, the earliest election date being discussed,’ the publication notes.
According to journalists, the Office of the President of Ukraine denies preparations for the elections. Most of the publication's sources are sceptical, including because of the organisation and the question of their legitimacy.
‘It would be suicide to participate in election campaigning right now,’ Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a Ukrainian MP from the Golos political party and first deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, told the newspaper.
However, the newspaper adds that the preparatory process has already started, regional election headquarters are already mobilising and work on the lists of candidates has begun.
With Donald Trump's inauguration approaching, Ukraine is preparing for change. However, despite all the talk of an end to the war, most realise that there is still a lot of fighting ahead.
‘We need to work within the bounds of reality. You cannot order the war to stop and wait,’ notes military chaplain Dmytro Povorotny.
