The portraits were created by a Belarusian artist.
The Ukrainian diaspora in Great Britain held an exhibition in London, where they showed portraits of fallen Belarusian volunteers, Euroradio reports.
The author of the portraits is the Belarusian artist Ksisha Anhelava. She was born in Minsk into a family of architects, her great-grandfather was the first rector of the Belarusian Polytechnic, repressed by the Soviet government. The artist graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Arts, studied icon painting at the St. Elizaveta Convent.
In 2020, after the death of Raman Bandarenka, she began painting portraits of political prisoners.
“After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ksisha actively joined in volunteer activities, receiving Ukrainian refugees at the train stations of the Polish capital, and conducting art therapy with them,” said representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.
A part of the exhibition is dedicated to Belarusian political prisoners. It features quotes from their letters and their last words in court. These texts were read by the participants of the event.
