‘Baba-Yaga’ Attacks Lukoil's Complex Near St. Petersburg

The work of the port important for the Russian Federation has been stopped.

In the evening of December 12, the air defence system shot down a drone over the Vysotsk Lukoil-II oil terminal in Russia's Leningrad region.

Baza claims it was a Baba Yaga-type reconnaissance drone. Its wreckage fell into the waters of the Gulf of Finland near the complex. After the incident the work of the port was suspended.

Lukoil's distribution transshipment complex is engaged in shipping oil products, including fuel oil, naphtha and diesel fuel. It was commissioned in 2004. The size of its tank farm is 460 thousand cubic metres and its capacity is 12 million tonnes of petroleum products per year.

‘Baba-Yaga’ is a drone created by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Initially, this type of apparatus was used for agricultural purposes, but after the Russian invasion they were converted for combat missions. ‘Baba Yaga’ can carry up to 50kg of cargo, including bombs, mines and aerial munitions.

Leningrad Region started to be subjected to drone raids on January 18. One of the largest was an attack on the terminal of Novatek, Russia's main producer of liquefied natural gas. The fire was extinguished for more than a day.
