Advance Syrian rebel units are approaching the key city.

The Syrian rebel offensive continues to develop rapidly. After gaining control of the city of Hama, the advanced units of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham are already rushing towards Homs, which is key to the defence of Damascus by the forces of the Bashar al-Assad dictatorial regime.

Israeli army officer Yigal Levin wrote about the opposition's advance southwards on his Telegram channel.

According to the military officer, the rebels, realising that there may be no second chance, decided not to stop for a quick pause and continue the offensive without giving the government army a break.

As the rebels are advancing towards Homs, the regime's supporters there have begun to leave the city and are heading to Tartus, where the Russian navy base is located, probably expecting that they will be safer under the protection of the Russians, the military officer added.

At the moment, there are heavy traffic jams on the M1 motorway leading to Tartus.

At the same time, ISIS militants issued a statement on Thursday saying they had taken control of new areas southeast of Homs after clashes with the Syrian army. The areas in question are desert and rural areas inhabited by Arab tribes.
