Der Spiegel: Germany Is Engaged In Secret Talks With India To Buy Shells For Ukraine

An informal group meets in Berlin every two weeks.

Germany is conducting non-public negotiations with India to buy artillery shells from the country through intermediaries and transfer them to Ukraine. According to insiders, several hundred thousand artillery shells are stored in the warehouses of this state.

Berlin made no official comments on the talks with New Delhi. Der Spiegel, citing sources, said that the Indian government maintains friendly relations with the Russian Federation, so the contacts of the states on the sale of ammunition are kept secret.

"As a result, there are now hidden negotiations about whether it is possible to obtain ammunition through intermediaries," the article reads.

According to the journalists, an informal group of officers, diplomats and civil servants from the office, financial and economic departments gather in Berlin every two weeks. They give advice on which states can potentially be contracted and how to persuade them to make a positive decision.

Der Spiegel does not exclude that similar transactions in the interests of Ukraine are also possible with Arab countries. Some of them have a large number of shells. In addition, some countries in the Balkans or Africa also have stockpiles or may continue to produce suitable ammunition.
