USA Supports Moldova's Sovereignty, Monitors Situation In Transnistria

The State Department speaker has made a statement.

The US State Department said that Washington firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and is closely monitoring the situation in unrecognised Transnistria.

This was announced by the speaker of the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, during a briefing.

The speaker stressed that the USA is watching Transnistria and the actions of the Russian Federation, which is playing an increasingly aggressive and destabilising role in Europe.

"We strongly support Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders," he added.

On February 28, deputies from unrecognised Transnistria appealed to the Federation Council and State Duma of aggressor country Russia to "protect" the region allegedly because of "Moldovan pressure". The press office of the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Russian Federation was "closely" considering the request of the unrecognised Transnistria.

Moldovan government spokesman Daniel Voda said Moldova is not expecting escalation and destabilisation in the Transnistrian region after the so-called congress.

Russia said afterwards that it was "closely" considering the requests of the unrecognised Transnistria.
