Aircraft Near Polish-Belarusian Border Are Obliged To Have Their Transponders On

Why?

Civil aircraft flying over areas of eastern Poland must have transponders (aircraft radar transponders) and audio communication turned on. Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, the Speaker for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, told.

“We want to see and hear them,” Goryszewski said. He added that areas of eastern Poland are patrolled by military helicopters and drones.

The new requirements were introduced yesterday, February 5, and until May 5.

Recall that on February 4, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces and the Air Navigation Agency issued a warning regarding flights in the eastern part of the country — along the borders with Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. The warning was related to possible “unscheduled military activity”.
