According to journalists, 58-year-old Admiral Radakin was supposed to retire in November this year after three years as Chief of Defence Staff. However, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak asked him to stay in the post until autumn 2025.

The publication writes that Radakin allegedly conducted secret "shuttle diplomacy" between Ukraine and the US. He met with Ukrainian military officials amid White House concerns that the US had become "too closely" involved in the war. It is believed Radakin was able to understand the tactical details of the land war in Ukraine, and to relate them to the strategic picture and the need to align the military response with broader economic and diplomatic efforts.

The piece says Radakin even allegedly met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv to discuss Ukraine's strategy in the war and how the West can help it. Radakin is loved in Ukraine for his "wise strategic thinking." Moreover, he allegedly helped Kyiv in drawing up battle plans.
