Destruction Of Russian Command Post On Tanker: Interesting Details Surface

The wrecked tanker belonged to a Russian company that was included in the sanctions list.

The Ukrainian military said that the ship destroyed yesterday, on which the Russian invaders set up a command post, was the tanker “Mechanik Pogodin”, which, after blowing up the dam of the Kakhovska hydroelectric station, was washed up on the Kinburn Spit.

As reported by the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, on March 11, as a result of a successful air strike by the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in the area of the Kinburn Spit, the tanker under the flag of the Russian Federation “Mechanik Pogodin”, which the Russians used as a control point, was destroyed.

The point is that the tanker “Mechanik Pogodin” IMO #9598397 belonged to the Russian company VEB Leasing OJSC (St. Petersburg), which was included in the sanctions list. Pursuant to the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of May 2, 2018 “On the application and abolition of economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)” and in accordance with the decision of the Kherson District Administrative Court in August 2018, the “Mechanic Pogodin” was arrested until the summer of 2023 was located on the territory of the Kherson seaport.

It is reported that after the enemy blew up the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station dam, the tanker washed ashore on the Kinburn Spit, which is temporarily controlled by the Russians. Subsequently, the enemy deployed an observation post on this tanker for reconnaissance, as well as electronic warfare equipment. The vessel was periodically used as a platform for carrying out FPV drone attacks on the territory of the Kherson region.

It is noted that the vessel meets the definition of a military object in accordance with the relevant paragraphs of the San Remo Manual of International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea. “The tanker “Mechanik Pogodin” was included in the enemy’s electronic warfare and intelligence collection system, as well as surveillance, command and communication systems. Thus, the destruction of the Russian tanker not only prevented the invaders from implementing their plans, but was also carried out in full accordance with the norms of the International humanitarian law,” notes the Ukrainian Navy.
