The drone was hit at a distance of about 6 km.
An Italian Navy ship shot down a drone that was approaching them in the Red Sea.
Reuters reported.
The Italian Defence Ministry noted that the destroyer Caio Duilio, which helps protect trade routes from air attacks by Yemeni Houthis, carried out an act of self-defence.
A drone with characteristics similar to those already used in previous attacks was about 6 km from the Italian ship and flew in its direction.
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said the Houthi attacks, which aim to show solidarity with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the war against Israel, are part of a strategy of hybrid warfare against some countries.
“The Houthi terrorist attacks are a serious violation of international law and an attack on the security of maritime transport on which our economy depends,” he said.
