Weapons For AFU Financed By Russia: Belgium Comes Up With New Scheme To Help Ukraine

Brussels is currently the largest operator of frozen assets of the Russian Federation.

Belgium is ready to finance the provision of military aid to Ukraine on an unprecedented scale - not less than 1.7 billion euros. But the most interesting thing is that the weapons will be transferred in fact using Russia's funds, since Brussels will use revenues from Russian assets frozen by the country for financing.

This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal at a press conference on March 4. According to him, it is about financing Ukrainian defence contracts.

"Belgium has declared that it received in the budget 1.7 billion euros of profits from Russian assets. Partly these funds are distributed to support Ukrainian refugees in the EU. Partially Belgium is ready to finance Ukrainian needs, including defence needs," Shmygal said.
