The Hill: Trump Supports Military Aid For Ukraine, But On One Condition

Republican Donald Trump, who is running for President in the US, on Friday signaled an openness to approving additional aid for Ukraine in its war against Russia.

However, he believes it should come in the form of a loan.

The pro-Trumpist wing of the US Congress has been blocking funding for military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of 2024. Arms supplies stopped completely, which worsened Ukraine’s position on the battlefield.

Trump discussed this topic on April 13 with House Speaker Mike Johnson.

After the end of the conversation, the Republican said that he was ready to provide assistance only if it was in the form of a loan.

“We’re looking at it right now, and they’re talking about it, and we’re thinking about making it in the form of a loan instead of just a gift,” said Trump.

In his opinion, Europe should pay for military assistance to Ukraine as “they have to equalize”.

“If they don’t equalize, they’re affected much more than we are,” Trump noted.

Trump has previously publicly stated that he encourages the Russian army to attack European countries in NATO because they allegedly pay America too little for protection.
