WP: US Warns Russia That Terrorist Attack To Take Place In 'Crocus'

Two weeks before the terrorist attack.

More than two weeks before the March 22 attack at the Crocus City Hall, the US passed information to Russia that the concert hall could be a potential terrorist target, The Washington Post reports.

WP's interlocutors claim that Washington gave Moscow information about the impending attack a day before the US embassy in Russia published a warning about a possible threat of a terrorist attack in the Russian capital. The warning was published on the embassy's website on the night of March 8, saying, among other things, that a terrorist attack could take place during a concert.

"It raises questions about why Russian authorities have not taken stricter measures to secure the site where militants caused a tragedy that resulted in the deaths of more than 140 people and the setting of a building on fire," the publication notes.

WP also reminds that teenager Islam Khalilov, who worked as a cloakroom attendant at the concert hall, helped people evacuate the building that night - in an interview he said the staff had been warned of a possible terrorist attack.

According to one of the newspaper's sources, the US also warned Russian authorities about a possible attack on a synagogue in Moscow. And on March 7, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that a terrorist attack on a Moscow synagogue prepared by militants of the Wilayat Khorasan cell of the Islamic State had been prevented.
