Details Of Drone Strike On Lukoil's Largest Refinery Revealed

An important installation is damaged.

On the night of May 12, a Ukrainian drone attacked the Volgograd Oil Refinery (refinery), the head of the Volgograd region Andrei Bocharov said.

According to him, the drone fell on the plant site and exploded. This caused a fire.

As a result of the fall of the drone, the crude oil distillation units AVT-1 and AVT-6 were damaged. The control cable of air refrigerators and the chimney of the P-1 furnace were also damaged, sources in the GUR (Ukrainian Defence Intelligence) told RBC-Ukraine.

In total, according to their data, last night drones attacked three military targets in the Volgograd, Kaluga and Lipetsk regions of the Russian Federation. In addition to the Volgograd refinery, the Kaluganefteproduct depot in the village of Lyudinovo, as well as the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, were hit.

Prior to that, the Lukoil-owned refinery in Volgograd was attacked by a drone on February 3. Then the fire area was 300 square meters, oil refineries were damaged. At the same time, the refinery is one of the largest producers of petroleum products in the Southern Federal District of Russia. The plant's capacity is 14.8 million tons of oil per year.

In turn, Novolipetsk Steel Works has been attacked by Ukrainian drones twice since the beginning of the year — in February and April. The plant has become a target for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since it produces raw materials for Russian companies engaged in nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
