Mysterious Explosion At St. Petersburg Military Academy: New Details Emerging

A powerful explosion occurred on Friday, May 17 at the Military Academy of Communications named after S. M. Budyonny, which is located on Tikhoretsk Avenue in St. Petersburg, Russia.

A large number of ambulances and fire trucks gathered at the university.

Initially, Russian resources reported an alleged drone strike on a military academy.

Telegram channel 112 later wrote that “an ammunition exploded in the basement of the building.” He very quickly deleted this information, clarifying that “the cause of the incident is being established.”

According to preliminary data, as a result of the mysterious emergency at the academy, 5 people were injured, 2 of whom were in serious condition.

According to updated data, 7 people were injured as a result of the explosion, two of whom are in intensive care.

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov said that the incident “is not of a terrorist nature.”

The Leningrad Military District confirmed rumors about an abnormal explosion of ammunition “during work.” They refer to a 76 mm caliber projectile from the Second World War.
