The Ukraine forces dealt a new blow to the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

On the night of May 19, the Ukrainian Defence Forces again damaged the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. They destroyed the Kovrovets, project 266-m, sea minesweeper of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Tonight, the Ukrainian Defence Forces destroyed the Kovrovets, project 266-m, sea minesweeper of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are still bringing us closer to victory," the report reads.

The information was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the sea minesweeper Kovrovets," the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reads.

What is known about the destroyed ship.

The Kovrovets is a sea minesweeper – project 266M. Its main task is to conduct trawls of ships and vessels, reconnaissance and control trawling, laying corridors in minefields, mining, etc.

This ship became part of the Soviet fleet in 1974, and by 1982 was called the Kurski Komsomolets. Since 1992, it was renamed Navodchik, and in 1999 it received the current name.

The Kovrovets participated in operations in the Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, patrolled the coast of Syria. In 2016-2017, the minesweeper was included in the Mediterranean Fleet of the Russian Federation.
