Zelensky: My Five Years Of Presidency Is Not Over Yet
VOLODYMYR ZELENSKY

The next presidential election in Ukraine was to be held in spring 2024.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Reuters, a recording of which was published by the Office of the President on YouTube on May 21, that his term as head of state had not yet expired.

When asked by the journalist whether Zelensky believes he has done a good job during his five years as president, the head of state replied, "My five years are not over yet, because of the martial law they continue."

The President of Ukraine also noted that he cannot evaluate his own performance.

"It's just not very ethical. I think the view is always fair somewhere from the outside, and I will not argue with this view and I'm not going to. The fairness, it's always somewhere in the middle," Zelensky said.

He emphasised that he was glad to be the President of the people who did not "turn their backs" and accepted the challenges that fell to them.

"I am proud to be the president of Ukraine - that's my attitude to these five years," Zelensky summarised.

The next presidential election in Ukraine was supposed to be held in the spring of 2024. However, Article 19 of Ukraine's law on the legal regime of martial law notes that it is prohibited to hold presidential and parliamentary elections under martial law (this regime has been in effect in Ukraine since February 24, 2022).
