Another General, Gerasimov's deputy, Was Arrested In Russia

Vadim Shamarin was searched and then taken away for interrogation.

The Investigative Committee of Russia detained the head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Deputy Valery Gerasimov (Chief of the General Staff), Lieutenant-General Vadim Shamarin. Kommersant newspaper reported, citing a source in law enforcement agencies. The information was confirmed by an Interfax source.

According to Kommersant, Shamarin was detained in a criminal case on alleged fraud. The general was searched, and then taken for interrogation to the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee.

In the 235th garrison military court, where the case of Shamarin was considered, RBC was informed that he was arrested in the case of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. The article provides for up to 15 years in prison. Shamarin was charged, TASS reports.
