What happened?

On May 23, at least two dozen residents were evacuated from the village of Zhmurnaye in Lelchytsy district of Homel region, located just eight kilometres from the border with Ukraine.

Special measures were carried out as part of the district command-staff and tactical-special exercises.

According to the district publication of "Bright Life", the exercise involved a scenario of a forest fire with the threat of fire spreading to the village of Zhmurnaye. The task of the evacuation commission was to organise emergency removal and temporary accommodation of villagers.

According to the local newspaper, it took no more than half an hour to evacuate the villagers, and the exercise itself proceeded "strictly according to instructions" and "without fuss".
