Belarusian Political Prisoner Tried After Death
ALIAKSANDR KULINICH

Incredible cynicism.

Aliaksandr Kulinich is being tried in Brest for ‘insulting Lukashenka’, writes the human rights centre ‘Viasna’. The man died in the pre-trial detention centre in early April.

Lieutenant Colonel of the reserve Aliaksandr Kulinich was detained in Brest by a dozen law enforcers on February 29 this year. The reason was comments on Telegram - the man wrote about the occupation and Russia and expressed support for Ukraine.

He was prosecuted under Part 1 of Article 368 (insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. He was in the pre-trial detention centre waiting for the trial, which was supposed to be held on April 16.

However, a week before that, on April 9, the man died. Despite his death, the electronic schedule of sittings on the website of the Supreme Court informed that Aliaksandr's case was considered by Maskouski District Court of Brest on May 30, the judge was Maryna Skalkovich.
