‘Will Keep Moscow Off Balance’: Trump's New Plan To End War In Ukraine

The former US National Security Advisor has revealed the details.

If the leader of the US Republican Party, Donald Trump, becomes president for the second time, he plans to impose peace in the world's hot spots. If the parties are not inclined to negotiate peacefully, then the use of force is possible. In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the politician will encourage European partners to provide weapons.

Trump's former National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien spoke about the possible principles of his future foreign policy in a column on a target="_blank" href=https://www.foreignaffairs.com/united-states/return-peace-strength-trump-obrien>Foreign Affairs.

Robert O'Brien first made an excursion into American politics, recalling how Trump acted as head of state. According to the former official, he did not start a single new war and stopped “apologizing for the sins of the United States”. If necessary, force was also used: for example, they struck the positions of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in response to a chemical attack. As for the events in Ukraine, under Trump's presidency (2017-2021), Russia did not dare to advance further after the events of 2014. If he receives the post of the head of the United States for the second time, he will maneuver between Ukraine, Russia and the EU and achieve peace, the former national security adviser is sure. This tactic was called “returning peace through war”.

O'Brien's column lists the main points of Trump's plan to end the war:

weapons will be provided to Ukraine, but not at the expense of American taxpayers, but with EU money;

meanwhile, the United States will “keep the door open” so that Moscow has the opportunity to negotiate.

“Trump's approach will be to continue to provide lethal aid to Ukraine, while leaving the door open for diplomacy with the Russian Federation — and unbalancing Moscow with a certain degree of unpredictability,” the politician explained.

In addition, Trump plans to somewhat intensify his policy in Europe. According to the former adviser, the Pentagon will deploy military units in Poland. The aim of such actions is to signal to Russia that its attack on a NATO member will be rebuffed. Another strand of the diplomatic plans is to persuade the EU to accept Ukraine as soon as possible.

“Continued American protection of Europe depends on whether Europe does its part, particularly in Ukraine,” the article says.
