One More EU Nation Decided To Punish Orbán For 'Peacemaking Visits'

To "distance from the way Hungary behaved with Ukraine".

Denmark will not send ministers to informal government meetings related to Hungary's EU presidency in July to protest Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's “peace initiatives”.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated, RBC-Ukraine reports citing to Reuters.

"The government wants to clearly distance itself from how Hungary behaved with Ukraine in the first weeks of the chairmanship," he said.

According to the minister, so far Denmark will send civil servants only to cover informal ministerial meetings in Hungary.

Orbán Tour

In early July, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Kyiv, where he proposed that Ukraine cease fire before and peace talks with the Russian Federation.

Later, Orbán went to negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and then to China to meet with Xi Jinping.

In turn, the ambassadors of the EU countries criticized Orbán for his "peace mission". At the same time, MEPs called for Hungary's veto to be revoked.

Boycott for Hungary

After Orbán's trips to China and Russia, six nations said they would not send their ministers to meetings of Hungary, which will be organized under its presidency at the EU Council. In particular, the boycott was announced by Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland.

At the same time, the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Orbán's visit to Russia, which states that the EU "believes that this violation should entail consequences for Hungary".
