Deep State: Fighting In Donetsk Region Has Escalated Significantly

The Ukrainian forces had to retreat behind the village of Progress.

Over the past two days, the army of the aggressor country of Russia managed to quickly turn the tide of the battle for the village of Progress in the Pokrovsk district of the Donetsk region. The enemy sets two goals in further advancement in this direction. The invaders hope to reach the highway that connects Pokrovsk with Konstiantynivka. This was reported by DeepState analysts.

According to them, the fighting on the approaches to the Progress began in the last days of April this year and, in fact, the Defence Forces managed to repel enemy attacks relatively successfully over the past three months, although there were occasional losses of positions.

"The strip, which consisted of the village itself, was taken by one of the infantry brigades. When the enemy launched a massive assault on July 19, almost the entire village was abandoned. Help was urgently received from another already mechanized brigade, which stood on the western street of the village. On July 20, due to the lack of sufficient infantry, its forces had to retreat. Now it's out of the village," analysts say.

It is noted that this forces another Ukrainian brigade, which stands along the railway, to deploy positions on the flank. In addition, according to them, there is a risk of encirclement, and "there is no order to align the line."

Experts are convinced that the further advance of the Russian troops in the Pokrovsk direction has two goals at once.

"Firstly, the occupiers seek to approach or cut the Pokrovsk-Konstiantynivka highway. And west of Vozdvizhenka there is a height of 229.0, which also "attracts" the enemy. Secondly, the invaders may aim to move along the ridge along which the railway runs, with the subsequent exit to the height of 224.8 and Novohrodivka. Unfortunately, it's impossible to provide more details so far. Ukrainian troops are trying to do everything so that none of the goals is realized by the enemy," DeepState noted.
