Kamala Harris Starts Campaign With Record

A huge amount of money has been raised.

The US Democratic Party has managed to raise over $55 million on the ActBlue small donor platform since Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the campaign race. This is a record amount in one day in 2024.

The fundraising information is cited by Politico. $27.5 million was raised in the first five hours after the announcement. ActBlue later reported that $46.7 million was raised in less than a day, which was already a daily record for 2024. The money is going to both Kamala Harris' campaign that started and to the campaigns of other Democrats facing the election as well.

Politico writes that the influx of funds reflects “an enthusiasm among Democrats that we haven't seen so far this cycle.” The amount raised is comparable to “the platform's best days ever,” but is still below the record set in 2020. Back then, $70.6 million was raised after the death of the oldest member of the U.S. Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
