How MAZ Buses Turned Into ‘Problematic Coffins’

Even state carriers are switching to Chinese buses.

“MogilevOblAvtoTrans” is replacing MAZ buses with Chinese ones.

Since the beginning of June, the organization has purchased ANKAI A9 buses for 7 intercity routes, leaving MAZs only for suburban routes.

The Chinese company ANKAI has been producing buses under license from the German company Setra since 1993. Unlike the “high-quality” spontaneously combustible MAZs, these buses are of increased comfort, with air conditioning, a cooler, a refrigerator and two monitors. In the spring, “MogilevOblAvtoTrans” purchased 3 Chinese YUTONG buses.

“The lack of imported spare parts due to sanctions has turned Belarusian transport into problematic coffins, which even Lukashenka's transport workers do not want to deal with. Perhaps they were interested in kickbacks from importers of Chinese buses. This situation looks very funny against the background of the regime's calls to buy Belarusian goods, and attempts to foist Belarusian transport all over the world. I wonder if the Mahiliou transport workers will be punished and, if so, how?” writes a reader of the Charter97.org website.
