Cholera Epidemic Breaks Out In Occupied Avdiivka

The town is closed for entering and leaving.

A cholera epidemic has begun in Russian-occupied Avdiivka, Donetsk Region, the head of Avdiivka town military administration Vitaly Barabash said. He said this on the air of a TV marathon broadcast by ICTV on July 25.

The occupants seized Avdiivka in February 2024. According to Barabash, during the first months after that, the Russians were trying to run public utilities, people were raking the access roads and for this they were paid 5 thousand rubles.

‘For two weeks now it hasn't been happening because - we have information from several sources - there is a cholera epidemic in the town. The town is now closed for entry from Donetsk. People are not let out of there,’ Barabash notes.

According to his data, representatives of the occupation authorities bring in food in special suits and gas masks, leave humanitarian aid and quickly leave.

‘There are a lot of stray dogs that attack people. It is reported that there is a strong stench coming from the bodies of the dead. And no one is cleaning anything up. That's why there's apparently a cholera epidemic. The town is now closed and there is an epidemiological catastrophe,’ Barabash said.

According to him, at the time when the defence forces retreated from Avdiivka, about 700 people were remaining in the town.

‘And now, according to our data, although the information from there is coming very pinpointed, in a small volume, there are 400-450 people remaining in the town. Many of those who were waiting for the arrival of occupation troops are already disappointed,’ said the head of the TMA.
