These are not cyber attacks, but physical acts of sabotage.

In France, on the night before the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, several high-speed rail lines were damaged, presumably as a result of sabotage. This was reported by the French railway company SNCF. A number of trains were cancelled, others were running late, and queues formed at train stations, Radio Liberty. reports.

According to the company, the high-speed TGV lines leading from Paris in the northern, western and eastern directions — to Lille, Strasbourg and Bordeaux, respectively — were damaged. In particular, the Eurostar trains running from Paris to Brussels and Amsterdam are being cancelled or changed. It is reported that another arson attack was prevented on the line leading south, towards Lyon and the Mediterranean coast.

The statement said that the “malicious actions” were aimed at paralyzing rail traffic. In particular, they were talking about arson. It is emphasized that these were not cyber attacks, but rather physical acts of sabotage. The head of the company, Jean-Pierre Farandou, called the incident “an attack on France”.

Authorities say that the attacks were clearly deliberate and coordinated. There have been no reports of arrests or suspicions against anyone. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the sabotage.

SNCF notes that repair work may take several days, and asks passengers who had tickets for high-speed trains running on the affected lines to postpone their trips if possible. In total, the disruption in transport affected about 800 thousand people, according to the company.
