Political Scientist: Negotiations Difficult For Lukashenka

The dictator is not in the best physical condition.

The propagandists are showing clips about peaceful walks of the allies (if not to count Lukashenka's distorted face), sitting in a gazebo and worship services in a monastery. And not a word about the subject of the closed negotiations.

What exactly did Lukashenka and Putin discuss for so long behind closed doors?

BGmedia asked Evgeny Magda, Director of the Institute of World Politics (Kyiv, Ukraine).

"Lukashenka and Putin are constantly communicating with each other, so there is nothing surprising about their closed-door talks. Putin decided that Lukashenka should gain some holiness, so he invited him to Valaam.

Since there is no clear information, it means that the two are negotiating over topics that should not be made public. I think that Lukashenka, as usual, is asking for money, and Putin, as usual, is conditioning financial aid on certain concessions from Belarus. Since Belarusian industry is already subordinated to the Russian military-industrial complex, there is no need to speak about serious changes.

Note that after the SCO summit in Astana it was again shown that Lukashenka was not feeling well. I think that he is really, to put it mildly, not in the best physical condition, and negotiations are difficult for him."
