500 Companies Subjected To Secondary Sanctions For Ties With Russia In Two Years

It has become known how many of them are from Belarus.

494 companies from 57 countries have been subject to US secondary sanctions for ties with Russia since 2022. Such data is published by the Vedomosti newspaper.

The main reason for secondary sanctions is said to be the supply of electronics and industrial goods, as well as assistance in circumventing restrictions for persons already subject to them. Logistics was in third place in terms of frequency of reasons for restrictions.

Thus, the majority of companies belong to “friendly countries” — 378 legal entities (76.51%). The remaining 116 affected companies (23.49%) are registered in the so-called “unfriendly” states for Russia.

The largest number of companies subject to secondary sanctions were Chinese — 107. In second place are the UAE and 75 legal entities. Another 66 companies are “registered” in Turkey.

It is noteworthy that 52 are located in unfriendly Cyprus, which is part of the EU. In total, these four countries account for 300 cases, or 60.73%.

Switzerland is also in the top five, where secondary sanctions affected 14 companies. As for the CIS and EAEU countries, 10 companies in Kyrgyzstan fell under such restrictions. Moldova came in second place — eight legal entities. But Belarus ranks third with seven companies.
