Natural Disaster Leaves Almost 2000 Settlements Of Belarus Without Light

The Ministry of Energy has disclosed the details.

Over the past 24 hours, the power supply was disrupted in 1917 settlements of the country due to bad weather, reported the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

6168 transformer substations, 171 farms, 24 boiler houses were de-energised.

The most frequent blackouts were in Minsk, Dziarzhynsk, Mazyr, Iuye, Valozhyn, Pinsk, Ashmiany, Lida, Maladzechna and Lelchytsy districts. Strong squally wind led to the trees falling on the wires, breaking them, damaging the supports of power lines.

Power engineers worked in a reinforced mode. 479 emergency brigades consisting of 1205 people and 430 units of equipment were involved.

As of 6.00 a.m. of July 30, restoration work continues in 48 settlements.

‘Power supplying organisations continue to monitor the situation constantly - weather conditions remain difficult. This morning the strengthening of the north-western wind with gusts up to 15-20 m/s will remain in the country. There will be rains in most of the territory, thunderstorms in some areas in the afternoon,’ the Ministry of Energy said.
