Lieutenant General has revealed the formula.
Western partners have pledged to hand over F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in a matter of weeks. But they will not be able to change radically the situation in the sky. Lieutenant General, military expert Ihor Romanenko told about this on air of Channel 24.
He reminded of the words of President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine needs 18 F-16s. Romanenko believes that even 50 fighters of this type will not change the situation on the battlefield, because the aggressor country Russia has much more aviation.
‘Frankly speaking, the characteristics of those F-16 modifications that we are likely to receive are weaker than those of the Su-34 - Su-35. They have longer range missiles and so on. It is better to use F-16s with Gripen,’ the expert says.
However, Ukraine can still achieve an advantage in the skies, to do so it is necessary to create a field of control and intelligence, which will mean the prospect of common air over neighbouring European countries.
‘For the F-16s to come in so late and still be effective, given the wins in the characteristics of Russian planes, it is necessary to create a whole field of control and intelligence over Ukraine. At least we should start doing that. That is, we need to remove the regular authorisations and create a system in fighting for Ukrainian air. This means the prospect of common air over the whole of Europe,’ the lieutenant-general explained.
