Defense Ministry Official Dies In Russia

The general closely cooperated with Timur Ivanov and was involved in the “theft” of significant sums.

This morning, July 9, Russian media, citing the head of the Shamilsky District Municipality of Dagestan, Magomed Gasanov, reported the death of 61-year-old General Magomed Khandayev, head of the State Expertise Department of the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to information posted on the Defense Ministry website, Magomed Khandayev was born on May 14, 1963. He graduated from the Samarkand Higher Military Automobile Command School, as well as higher academic courses of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation, and the Dagestan State Technical University, specializing in Industrial and Civil Engineering.

According to his service list, he worked in the Defense Ministry directly on construction issues, Stopkor writes.

Khandayev was appointed to the post of the head of the State Expertise Department a year ago, in June 2023. He was awarded the titles of Honored Worker of Housing and Public Utilities of the Russian Federation, Honored Builder of the Republic of Buryatia, and Candidate of Economic Sciences.

The Internet says that Khandayev's death is not an accident, and if it is an accident, then it came in very timely. It is reported that the man closely collaborated with Timur Ivanov, was involved in the “theft” of significant sums during the construction of structures for the Caspian Flotilla, and could tell the investigation a lot of interesting things.

After the change of leadership in the Russian Ministry of Defense, a wave of personnel purges began, accompanied by high-profile arrests. Thus, since April, former Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov, the chief personnel officer of the military department Yuri Kuznetsov, and former commander of the 58th Army Ivan Popov have ended up in pretrial detention. Other employees of the Ministry of Defense have also ended up in custody.
