NYT Learns About Khamenei's Order To Strike Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered a strike against Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, The New York Times reported, citing Iranian officials.

The order was given at an emergency meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council in the morning of July 31 after Haniyeh's death was reported, which Tehran and Hamas blamed on Israel.

Israel Defence Forces officials have not commented on reports that state forces were involved in the incident.
