In the case of a major theft of supplies to the army.
The head of the Voentorg company, which deals with supplies for the needs of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, was detained in the case of embezzlement in an especially large amount in the performance of state contracts, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported.
According to the MIA, in 2019, the head of Voentorg and his employees conspired with other accomplices in Moscow, North Ossetia, the Stavropol Territory, the Pskov Region and other regions. They concluded state contracts for the supply for "army needs" in the amount of about 625 million rubles.
From December 2019 to December 2022, the partners purchased products from manufacturing companies through organizations controlled by them, the beneficiary of which was a 41-year-old native of North Ossetia. After that, the attackers sold these products to the MoD, "economically unreasonably increasing the price of goods in the amount of more than 400 million rubles". As a result, the military department and the Russian budget suffered "damage on an especially large scale," the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
The head of Voentorg and other detainees were charged under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud as part of an organized group or on an especially large scale, up to ten years in prison).
The Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that within the framework of the case, 64 searches of the house of the leadership and employees of the Ministry of Defence, in the premises of Voentorg and a number of companies were carried out, documents, electronic media, mobile phones and "other items of evidentiary value" were seized. More than 30 witnesses were questioned.
According to the source of Ria Novosti, on the eve of July 31, a court in Moscow arrested the property of the defendants in the case.
In the message of the department, the name of the head of Voentorg is not called. Since 2012, the general director of the company has been Vladimir Pavlov. Voentorg is engaged in the organization of catering and provides other services in the field of household support for the Ministry of Defence, other ministries and departments. In 2016, the company became the only supplier of clothing service equipment for the Russian army.
Before that, Voentorg was mentioned in the case of the former Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Army General Dmitry Bulgakov, who was accused of supplying 9 million rations to the troops at an inflated price. According to law enforcement agencies, the general lobbied the interests of the Gryazinsky Food Factory, which supplied the troops with low-quality food, replacing meat in rations with cheaper ones. In return, Bulgakov received kickbacks from top managers of the enterprise. The investigation estimated the damage from Bulgakov's actions at rub 1.3 billion.
