Six More Settlements In Belgorod Region To Be Closed Due To Ukrainian Advance

Only adult men will be allowed through under strict regulations.

The authorities of the Belgorod region have decided to close entry to six settlements in the region from August 19, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on his Telegram channel. The restrictions will affect the village of Novostroyevka Vtoraya and the settlements of Sovkhozny, Dobropolye and Kazachok in the Grayvoron District, as well as the village of Novopetrovka in the Valuy District. Entry to the village of Kolotilovka in Krasnoyarsk District will be closed temporarily, the governor noted.

Gladkov also suggested that residents of the city of Shebekino, the villages of Yasnye Zori, Ustinka, Lozovoye, Poroz, Dronovka, Vyazovoye, Repyakhovka, Grafovka, Mokraya Orlovka and the village of Tserkovny, who do not wish to remain in their homes due to military actions, move to temporary accommodation points or receive “partial compensation” from the authorities for renting housing: 20 thousand rubles per month for an ordinary family and 40 thousand rubles per month for a large family.

In mid-July, the operational headquarters of the Belgorod region decided to impose restrictions on entry into 14 settlements in the region located in close proximity to the Russian border with Ukraine. As Gladkov explained, the authorities had to take such measures due to the “extremely difficult operational situation”. “We will only allow adult men to pass according to strict regulations: in an armored vehicle with electronic warfare, in personal protective equipment — a bulletproof vest and helmet — and accompanied by military personnel and representatives of municipalities, including self-defense,” the governor wrote in a Telegram channel at the time.

The decision to close six more settlements was made by the Belgorod leadership against the backdrop of the Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive in the Kursk region, which began on August 6. As of August 15, the Ukrainian army managed to take control of 1,150 square kilometers of the region's territory and 82 settlements.
