The Times: Ukraine Is Preparing To Stay In Kursk Region

The AFU has four distinct advantages.

If Putin does not make concessions and refuses to negotiate, Ukraine will have no choice but to stay in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation and move further along Russian territory, The Times writes.

The publication writes that Ukraine has no desire to permanently occupy the captured Russian territory, but it hopes that the arrival of thousands of well-equipped soldiers trained in Western-style combined-arms combat skills will force Moscow to shift attention from the east of Ukraine and eventually persuade Putin to negotiate.

"If Putin does not make concessions and refuses to negotiate, except on his own terms, Kyiv will have no choice but to stay in the Kursk region and move on to increase pressure on Moscow. Anticipating such a scenario, Ukraine created a “military commandant's office” in the occupied areas as a demonstration of a new front line opposing Moscow,” the article reads.

Now, as indicated in the publication, the Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region have four clear advantages:

“They plan to withdraw only when the Kyiv leadership decides that the time is right, politically and strategically. They have the firepower, including air defences there. Dense forest cover them as well as hundreds of captive Russian conscripts.”
