Armenia's Democratic Forces Urge To Break Relations With Belarus Immediately

Until Lukashenka is removed from office.

Democratic Forces of Armenia have demanded that the country's authorities ‘immediately sever diplomatic relations with Belarus until dictator Lukashenka is removed from office’.

Their representatives came to the Belarusian embassy in Yerevan with this and other political demands on August 21.

The demand to break diplomatic relations is mentioned in the statement of the Consultative Platform of Democratic Forces of Armenia, the text of which was shared with ‘Pozirk’ by political scientist, expert of the Armenian Centre for Political and International Studies Ruben Mehrabyan, who is one of the organisers of the rally.

The words of ‘Belarusian dictator Lukashenka addressed to Armenia and the Armenian people in an interview given to Rossiya TV channel on August 19 ⟨...⟩ in which he stated that “no one cares for Armenians” are another manifestation of his anti-Armenian stance, which has become a bad tradition for him,’ the statement said.

‘Taking into account the support provided by Belarus to Azerbaijan in the war against Armenia’ and ‘recognising the systematic and ongoing violation of the rights of its own people and citizens by the Belarusian dictatorial regime’, the Consultative Platform of Demsil of Armenia demanded that the authorities declare the Ambassador of Belarus and all other diplomatic staff persona non grata and give them three days to leave the territory of the country.

It is also proposed to ‘break all bilateral treaties with Belarus, including the agreement on visa-free travel of citizens’ and ‘consider it impossible to stay in the same military union and economic and customs space with Belarus and immediately withdraw from the CSTO, EAEU and CIS’.

The statement was signed by the ‘In the Name of the Republic’ party, the European Party of Armenia, the NGO ‘Europe of Rights’, and the ‘Asparez’ Journalists Club.
