The results of a new poll have been released.
Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris is ahead of her opponent Republican Donald Trump with a result of 45 per cent against 41 per cent.
This is reported by Reuters.
The agency released the results of a joint Reuters/Ipsos poll, which shows that the incumbent Vice-President is arousing new enthusiasm among voters and changing the course of the race on the eve of the elections in November.
It noted that the 4 percentage point advantage among registered voters was larger than the 1-point difference Harris held over the former president in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in late July.
Sympathy for Women and Latinos
The new poll, which was conducted over eight days and ended Wednesday, August 28, with a margin of error of 2%, showed the Democrat with strong support among women and Hispanics. And among women and Hispanic voters, Harris beat Trump by a 49% to 36% margin - or 13 percentage points.
In four Reuters/Ipsos polls conducted in July, Harris was ahead of Trump by 9 points among women and 6 points among Hispanic voters.
Trump was leading among white voters and men, with the same margin as in July. Though his lead among voters without a college degree shrank to 7 points in the latest poll, down from 14 points in July.
At the same time, Trump outpaced Harris 45% to 43% among registered voters in seven states - Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan and Nevada.
Growing Enthusiasm
Some 73% of registered Democratic voters in the poll said they were more enthusiastic about voting in November after Harris entered the race. And although the March Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 61% of respondents who intended to vote for Biden did so primarily to stop Trump, 52% of Harris voters in the August poll voted to support her as a candidate rather than primarily to oppose Trump.
However, Trump voters also expressed enthusiasm about their candidate, with 64% saying their choice was motivated more by supporting Trump than opposing Harris.
Voters recognised that Trump has a better approach to managing the US economy, 45% versus 36%, a larger margin than in another Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted this week.
The period of the latest poll partly coincided with the Democratic Party National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22, where Harris officially accepted her party's nomination. It remains to be seen whether she will be able to maintain a similar level of enthusiasm among the electorate.
The poll was conducted nationally and collected responses from 4,253 American adults, including 3,562 registered voters.
