Annalena Baerbock: Deploying American Tomahawks In Germany Is A Reliable Deterrent
ANNALENA BAERBOCK

The Minister of Foreign Affairs defended the agreement with the United States.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock defended the agreement with the United States on the deployment of American long-range missiles in Germany, citing the threat that Russia poses to European security.

DW reported.

"Shaping foreign policy today means recognizing that the principle of hope will not protect us from Putin's Russia," she said.

Annalena Baerbock noted that now the country is protected by investments in its own security and strength - in the EU, in NATO and in Germany.

“And that includes the decision to deploy American long-range weapons systems,” she added.

The minister stressed that Germany needs a "reliable deterrent" against Russia, "which also protects the Poles, the Baltic nations and the Finns - our partners who have a direct border with Russia and have felt how it uses hybrid measures on the border in recent months."

Recall that on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington on July 9-11, the governments of the United States and Germany announced that the United States intends to deploy long-range missile systems in Germany again in 2026, some of which can reach Russia.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that in order to prevent the deployment of American long-range missiles in Germany, Russia must first stop its war against Ukraine.
