BILD: Ukraine Tests The Dragon Drone

It really makes spew fire.

The Ukrainian army has demonstrated for the first time the work of a drone that scatters incendiary munitions over the enemy from a close distance.

The video, which was published on Telegram by the 108th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade of Ukraine, shows the combat use of an FPV drone, which does not drop grenades or fly to a target with an explosive charge, but scatters thermite – a mixture of burning granules of iron oxide and aluminium – over the positions of the Russian troops.

According to BILD, at the end of last year, the Ukrainian military began thinking about how to use the thermite mixture together with drones. As a result, they concluded that a standard FPV drone can carry about 500 grams of thermite mixture. The chemical reaction is launched by remote control only shortly before it appears in the target area.

In the video, the fiery rain over Russian positions lasts for about 20 seconds, eventually setting a forest belt about 100 meters long on fire. Just a few seconds after the thermite mixture was used, explosions can be seen on the ground. This is a sign that the fire has spread to the Russians' ammunition.

Thermite burns at a temperature of about 2,500 degrees, which means that the hot mixture corrodes even iron in a matter of seconds, and mortars, grenades, and cartridges become deadly for their owners.
