The company produces Kh-59 missiles, as well as components for Kh-101 cruise missiles.
On the night of October 12, an alarm was sounded in the Russian city of Smolensk due to the threat of drones, and later the network reported explosions near the aircraft plant.
According to the tg channel Astra, local residents reported explosions near the airfield, where the Smolensk aircraft plant is also located. At the same time, one of the videos taken by an eyewitness shows a trace similar to the one left by anti-aircraft missiles after launch, Militarny writes.

In addition, the article notes that OSINT specialist Blinzka conducted a geolocation analysis of the video, as a result of which it was possible to determine the exact location of the operator 54.81031, 32.05208 and the direction of the shooting.
"The analysis showed that the smoke was rising from the direction of the aircraft factory. At the same time, in the area of the airfield itself, a column of smoke rose after the explosion, which can probably be associated with the drone strike on production facilities," notes Militarny.
In addition, residents of the village of Vygonichi in the Bryansk region also reported a large number of explosions. It is alleged that a local electrical substation was attacked.
Smolensk Aviation Plant - why it is important
The Smolensk Aviation Plant is on the sanctions lists of the European Union, Ukraine and other countries because of the production of high-precision missiles X-59, as well as components for cruise missiles X-101, which Russia fires at Ukraine. The plant also produces UAVs, units for front-line aviation and light-engine aircraft for various purposes.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have already attacked this plant in January 2025. Then the strike disrupted the production process of Russian Kh-59 air-to-surface missiles of various modifications.
