Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not speak directly about what response U.S. President Donald Trump gave him regarding the supply of U.S. Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev during a meeting between the two leaders in Washington, Clash Report reported.
Zelensky said the issue was discussed during the talks between the two leaders and Trump, who discussed the issue during the talks.me/ClashReport/60613">Clash Report.
Zelensky said the issue was discussed during the talks, which lasted more than two hours, and Trump noted that the US itself needs these weapons.
"We, of course, talked about long-range missiles as well. We decided that we will not talk publicly about missiles for the time being because the US does not want escalation," he explained, adding that the issue remains on the table. The President also said that the talks were "productive" and the leaders discussed a wide range of topics, including Ukraine's air defense. After meeting with Trump, the Ukrainian leader also called European leaders and discussed military aid and security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelensky was also asked if he and Trump had discussed the issue of territorial concessions. The president responded by saying that a ceasefire must first be reached. "The issue of territories is very delicate... and the most complicated, actually. I know that Russia has a different position. They want to occupy everything... Our position is that first we need a ceasefire," the Ukrainian head of state said.
Zelensky added that "in the current circumstances we need to stop where we are now," referring to the current front line. "We are at war against a big country. We need to stop. And then start talking about what steps can be taken toward long-term peace," he said.
After his talks with Trump, Zelensky spoke by phone with several European leaders to "provide them with an update," Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported earlier. Zielenski himself told reporters at a briefing that the conference call was attended by the heads of the European Council and European Commission Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stiore, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other leaders. "We talked about security guarantee issues, the Coalition of the willing is the main European partner, we also talked about air defense, the PURL program," Zelensky said.
