Pakistan And Afghanistan Agree On Ceasefire

What is known.

Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed on an immediate ceasefire during talks in Doha.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Qatari Foreign Ministry on social network X.

"During the talks, both sides agreed on an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of mechanisms to strengthen sustainable peace and stability between the two countries," the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The agreement was signed by the defense ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as representatives of Qatar and Turkey.

The sides agreed to hold further meetings in the coming days to maintain and fully implement the ceasefire.

Pakistan on October 15 had already announced an agreement with Afghanistan on a temporary ceasefire for the next 48 hours amid the outbreak of fighting along the border.

Pakistan's Foreign Office noted that during this period both sides "will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue."

The agreement expired at 6:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. Minsk time - ed.) on October 17.

Battles between Afghanistan and Pakistan erupted on the border on October 15. They have become the most brutal since the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021.

More than a dozen civilians and soldiers have been reported dead.
