"Putin Was Forced To Call First."

The head of the Kremlin did it not out of desire, but out of fear.

On the eve of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump on October 17 in Washington, D.C., Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was forced to call the head of the White House. During the two-hour conversation, the politicians talked about the settlement of the situation in the Middle East, trade relations between the countries and actually agreed on a personal meeting, which is soon to take place in Budapest.

This way the Kremlin head tried once again to impose his position and influence the conversation between Trump and Zelensky. This opinion in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA was expressed by Ukrainian diplomat and politician Roman Bessmertny.

Putin was trying to draw attention to himself

According to the expert, the dictator's call on the eve of the Ukrainian president's visit is a typical technique aimed at trying to get ahead of events, impose his own agenda and disrupt preparations.

"Before the call, we actually lived in the Anchorage paradigm. The factual information that Trump was getting before that call indicated: the situation is not at all what the Fuhrer told him in that meeting. It's radically different. And, you know, water grinds stone - gradually the situation has changed for the Kremlin. But the main thing that has changed is the relationship between Zelensky and Trump. That's the key thing now, and it should be kept in sight," the diplomat explained.

Bessmertny noted that Putin called precisely to disrupt the preparations. According to U.S. intelligence agencies, outside influence and control is "flowing" around Trump. A joint Ukrainian-American joint commission had been working for a week, the Kremlin learned. And the concern was so strong that Putin had to break diplomatic norms and be the first to make the call, something he usually avoids.

"From the point of view of diplomatic protocol, it looked logical: Trump had initiated calls before, and now it was as if it was a symmetrical move. But if you look deeper, it became obvious: Putin did it not out of desire, but out of fear," the diplomat said.

He believes that there are two main components clearly visible in this call. The first is the desire for a new meeting, which is to see the American. After all, every handshake with Trump, especially this time in Europe, continues the political existence of a war criminal.

The second component, disguised as a "bad war wrapper," concerns the so-called trans-subway under the Bering Strait. It sounds unrealistic, but it is this "big economic idea" that Putin is trying to pitch as a significant achievement.

"Look: on the one hand, the opportunity to meet Trump, which is a gesture of ego for both of them; on the other hand, the dollar. Because money is always a value for Trump. So, two factors - money and the meeting - outweighed everything," Bessmertny summarized.
