The Russian strike was purposeful.
The strike by Russian troops on the energy facility in Slavutich was targeted. The Blackout at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant lasted more than three hours.
The strike was reported in Telegram by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
"Because of today's Russian strike on one of our power substations in Slavutych, a blackout at the facilities of the former Chernobyl nuclear plant lasted for more than three hours," Zelensky said.
He noted that this is, in particular, a new shelter that protects the environment from the remains of the fourth power unit of the plant after the 1986 explosion and radioactive debris and dust.
It is also a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, which stores 80% of all such spent fuel that was accumulated during the operation of the nuclear power plant. These are spent fuel assemblies weighing more than 3,250 tons.
"The Russians could not have been unaware that a strike on the facilities in Slavutich would have such consequences for Chernobyl. And it was a targeted strike in which they used more than 20 drones - according to preliminary estimates, Russian-Iranian Shaheds," the Ukrainian president stressed.
According to him, some of these drones were shot down, but the strike was organized precisely by a wave of drones to complicate the defense of the facility.
