One of the key installations has been damaged.
Russia's Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery has halted operations after another drone attack. The enterprise is owned by Rosneft.
The incident occurred on Sunday, and it is the second attack on the enterprise in the past month. According to Reuters, it suspended primary processing of crude oil due to damage to one of its key units.
Main production has been halted
Industry sources said the company shut down the CDU-11 crude oil primary processing unit, with a capacity of about 18,900 metric tons per day (about 138,540 barrels). Another unit, CDU-9, had been decommissioned before the incident.
The refinery has effectively stopped refining altogether. Insiders predict that production may not resume until early November.
Details of the attack on the Novokuibyshevsk refinery
On the night of October 19, residents of Novokuibyshevsk in the Samara region complained of explosions followed by fires. A video that appeared online showed a huge column of smoke rising above the enterprise.

The General Staff confirmed the strike on the Novokuibyshevsk refinery, which produces more than 20 types of marketable products, with an annual primary processing volume of 4.9 million tons. The enterprise is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian army.
Preliminary information suggests that primary oil refining units were hit. A fire broke out on the territory of the enterprise, but the extent of the damage is being clarified.
The governor of the Samara Region Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the Ukrainian drone attack. According to him, air defenses were allegedly used against the drones, and the work of the local airport and mobile internet was temporarily suspended.
The Rosneft company did not provide official comments. But Russian media reported that the damage had significantly affected the company's operations.
What is known about previous attacks
AO Novokuibyshevsk Refinery is a Russian oil refinery in the Samara region, part of the Rosneft Group. The enterprise is one of Rosneft's key refining facilities in the Volga region, and its capacity is 8.8 million tons of oil per year.

Produces fuel for all types of transport: automobile, aviation, railway, river and sea vessels, oil components, bitumens, coke, petrochemical products.
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery already halted refining last month after a similar drone strike.
In 2023, the refinery processed 5.74 million tons of crude oil, producing 1.1 million tons of motor gasoline, 1.64 million tons of diesel fuel and 1.27 million tons of fuel oil. The plant shutdown could affect domestic fuel supplies in the region.
